Note on Sources

This map was based off of a 1930s Sanborn map of Waterville that detailed addresses and locations of buildings.  To determine the name of the homeowner or business at each address, we used Waterville Directories from 1960-1967. The 1967 Waterville City Planning Report and a comparison of which properties existed in the 1960 directory, but not in the 1974 directory was used to determine which properties in the Charles Street area were acquired and demolished by the URA.  Information about which properties were acquired and demolished in the Head of Falls area was gathered from the Head of Falls Urban Renewal Area Property Map by the Waterville Urban Renewal Authority. Pictures were gathered from a variety of sources: Postcard History Series: Waterville by Earle G. Manning Company, 1972 Waterville Annual Reports by the City of Waterville, Waterville Fire Department Records, and pictures and post cards provided by the Waterville Historical Society.
